Raising the deck of the Bayonne Bridge is an unprecedented feat and the Z+F IMAGER 5010 was able to lend a helping hand!
In 2010, Z+F released the IMAGER 5010.  This scanner set new market standards and was quickly adopted by some of the top companies in the 3D Laser Scanning. The IMAGER 5010’s incredible speed and easy-to-use interface allows the scanner to operate at the highest of efficiencies, creating outstanding high resolution 3D data.
T.Y. Lin International (TYLI) was awarded the prestigious ACEC New Jersey 2012 Engineering Excellence “Distinguished” Award for capturing the Bayonne Bridge in 3D. TYLI provided High Definition Survey and Building Information Modeling (BIM).   The IMAGER 5010 was used to scan the supporting structure of the bridge from the road deck.  The bridge could not be closed off during the project scanning.  The vibration of the road deck and bridge due to traffic posed a significant challenge.  This required the highest possible data acquisition speed to minimize the effect of the vibration on the data.  The IMAGER 5010 unique combination of speed, accuracy, and range made it the only scanner suitable for these conditions.   TYLI and the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (the Authority) received the award at ACECNJ’s Engineering Excellence Awards held on March 14, 2012, in Monroe Township, New Jersey. The project was led by Joseph (Joe) Messina P.L.S. of the Hackettstown, New Jersey office.
